| No sound | • Check that speakers and other system components are properly connected. • Check that the input selector is set correctly. |
| Can't switch between functions | • If the cassette deck is currently recording, you can't change the function. |
| Timer doesn't work | • Make sure that the clock is set. |
| Remote control doesn't work | • Try replacing the batteries • If a fluorescent lamp is near the remote sensor on the main unit, it can interfere with remote operation. • Make sure that you're using the remote within its operating range. |
| Power doesn't come on | • Check that system cables are connected properly. |
| CD player | |
| CD won't play | • Check that the CD is loaded the right way (label side should be face out). • Check that the CD is clean and free of scratches and other damage. • Check that the function is set to CD. |
| Tuner | |
| Can't tune into any radio stations or sound is distorted | • Check that the antenna is properly connected. • Experiment with the placement of the antenna. • Make sure that other electrical appliances (fluorescent light, hairdryer, etc.) are not being used closeby. • Check that the tuning frequency interval is set correctly for your region/country. |
| A stereo broadcast is played in mono | • If the mono indicator is lit, press MONO to switch it off. |
| Tape deck | |
| Can't record | • Check that the tape you want to record on still has the erase-protect tabs in place, or that they are covered with tape, etc. |
| Recordings are muddy or distorted, or you can still hear a previous recording under the new one | • Clean the tape heads. |
| Excessive tape hiss and over-emphasized high frequencies | • Make sure that Dolby NR is in the same position as when the tape was recorded. |
| Dull, muffled sound | • Make sure that Dolby NR is in the same position as when the tape was recorded. |
| Recording made from the LINE 1 input are distorted | • Set the LINE 1 input level to ATT ON. |
| Recording made from the LINE 1 input very quiet | • Set the LINE 1 input level to ATT OFF. |
