01 Getting started

Home theater sound setup

Set up your 5.1 channel home theater sound system by choosing between a standard 5-spot setup or a front surround 3-spot setup. Adjust channel levels using the SHIFT+TEST TONE function and VOLUME controls.

Setting the channel levels

Press SHIFT+TEST TONE. Use the VOLUME buttons to adjust levels. Use cursor buttons to adjust each speaker's level.

Using the on-screen displays

Navigate graphical displays using cursor buttons and ENTER.

Playing discs

Insert a disc, press OPEN/CLOSE, and then play. Basic playback controls include play, pause, stop, fast forward/reverse, and skipping tracks/chapters.

About the listening modes

Explore various listening modes like AUTO, DOLBY DIGITAL/DTS, PROLOGIC, MOVIE, MUSIC, and STEREO. Use SHIFT+SURROUND to select.

Using Front Surround

Activate Front Surround mode (SHIFT+FRONT SURROUND) for a specific speaker setup.

Listening in stereo

Select STEREO mode (SHIFT+SURROUND) to listen in stereo.

Listening with headphones

When headphones are connected, only STEREO mode is available.

Using the SFC modes

Choose from SFC (Sound Field Control) modes like ACTION, DRAMA, ROCK, etc. using SOUND MODE.

Adjusting the bass and treble

Use SOUND MODE to select BASS or TREBLE and adjust with cursor buttons.

Boosting the bass level

Use SOUND MODE to select BASSMODE (OFF, MUSIC, CINEMA) for enhanced bass.

03 Playing discs

Scanning discs

Fast-scan discs forward or backward using the skip buttons.

Playing in slow motion

Pause playback and use skip buttons to play in slow motion (forward or reverse for DVDs).

Frame advance/frame reverse

Pause playback and use skip buttons to advance or reverse frame-by-frame (DVDs only for reverse).

Playing a JPEG slideshow

Press play on a JPEG disc to start a slideshow. Use skip buttons to navigate pictures.

Browsing DVD or Video CD/Super VCD discs with the Disc Navigator

Press HOME MENU, select 'Disc Navigator', and choose a view option to browse disc contents and select parts to play.

Browsing WMA, MP3, DivX video and JPEG files with the Disc Navigator

Use the Disc Navigator to find and play files or folders.

Looping a section of a disc

Use A-B Repeat (HOME MENU > Play Mode) to loop a specific section of a disc.

Using repeat play

Select repeat play options (e.g., Disc Repeat, Track Repeat) from the Play Mode menu.

Creating a program list

Program the playback order of titles, chapters, or tracks using HOME MENU > Play Mode > Program.

Other functions available from the program menu

Searching a disc

Search discs by title, chapter, track number, or time using HOME MENU > Play Mode > Search Mode.

Switching subtitles

Zooming the screen

04 Audio Settings and Video Adjust menus

Audio Settings menu

Access Audio Settings via HOME MENU. Adjust Audio DRC (Dynamic Range Control) for better sound at low volumes.

Video Adjust menu

Access Video Adjust via HOME MENU. Adjust Sharpness, Brightness, Contrast, Gamma, Hue, and Chroma Level.

05 Initial Settings menu

Using the Initial Settings menu

Set up Video Output, Language, Display, Parental Lock, and DivX VOD settings via HOME MENU > Initial Settings.

Video Output settings

Configure TV Screen (4:3 Letter Box, 4:3 Pan & Scan, 16:9 Wide) and Component Out (Interlace, Progressive).

Language settings

Set Audio Language, DVD Menu Language, and Subtitle Language. Options include English, Languages as displayed, and Other Language.

Display settings

Set OSD Language and Angle Indicator.

Options settings

Configure Parental Lock and DivX VOD settings.

Speakers settings

Set Speaker Distance.

Parental Lock

Set Parental Lock levels and passwords to control content playback.

Register the player with a DivX VOD provider to play protected content.

Troubleshooting and error codes

Problem Solution
General
Unit does not turn on or turns off suddenly
  • Disconnect, wait one minute, and reconnect.
  • Ensure no loose filaments.
  • Check speaker connections.
  • Verify unit voltage matches power supply.
  • Try lowering volume.
  • If persistent, contact authorized service center.
No sound when selecting a function
  • If using line input, ensure component is correctly connected.
  • Press MUTE on remote to deactivate mute.
No image on screen when playing a disc
  • Ensure TV is correctly connected.
  • Reset video output to interlaced mode (see Video Output settings).
Surround sound speakers or center speaker produce no sound
  • Check channel level settings (see page 6).
  • When TUNER or LINE is selected, sound is stereo only. Switch to DVD/CD for multichannel.
  • Ensure recording mode is not active.
  • Ensure STEREO sound mode is not selected.
  • Connect speakers properly.
Remote control does not work
  • Change batteries.
  • Use within 7m, 30° of the unit's sensor.
  • Remove obstructions or try a different position.
  • Avoid direct sunlight on the front panel sensor.
SND. DEMO displayed, unit cannot be operated
  • Press and hold STOP on the front panel for 5 seconds to deactivate Demo Mode.
TRAYLOCK displayed, tray cannot be ejected
  • Press and hold EJECT for about 8 seconds.
DVD/CD/Video CD Player
Unit ejects disc after insertion
  • Clean disc and align properly.
  • Check region code compatibility.
  • Allow condensation to evaporate.
  • Ensure disc is inserted label-side up.
Unit does not play
  • Press STOP, then PLAY.
  • Turn unit off and on with STANDBY/ON.
Playback freezes, buttons unusable
  • Turn unit off and on with STANDBY/ON.
Settings cancelled
  • Settings are cancelled if power is lost.
No image or color
  • Check connections.
  • Consult TV/monitor manual for correct settings.
  • Check TV Screen setting (see Video Output settings).
Image stretched or format incorrect
  • TV Screen setting may be incorrect. Adjust to match TV (see Video Output settings).
Recorded video or AV selector input distorted
  • System uses copy protection technology which may cause issues. This is not a malfunction.
Image distorted or dark during playback
  • Player is compatible with Macro-Vision System copy protection. Discs with this signal may show bars or issues. This is not a malfunction.
  • Disc playback behavior varies. Issues like black screen or flickering may occur due to disc differences, not player malfunction.
