Using the System Correctly

Installation Precautions

  • Ensure there are no obstructions around the unit and ventilation holes.
  • Maintain at least 10 cm distance from walls.
  • Do not install on thick carpets that block ventilation holes on the bottom.
  • Periodically clean the subwoofer port with a vacuum cleaner.

Using the Setup Navigator

  • Press SYSTEM & to switch on.
  • Turn on TV and set to correct video input.
  • If a disc starts playing automatically, press to stop it.
  • Press DVD then SETUP to launch the Setup Navigator.
  • Navigate using the arrow keys and ENTER button to set up audio, video, language, and general preferences.
  • Select START to begin, or Auto Start Off if you don't want to use the navigator.
  • Choose your TV type (Widescreen or Standard) and confirm all settings.
  • Press SETUP to exit.

Troubleshooting and error codes

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
The disc is ejected automatically after loading. Dirty or damaged disc. Clean the disc (see pages 98-99).
Disc not seated properly in the disc guide. Align the disc properly.
Incompatible region number. Ensure the DVD disc region matches the DVD tuner's region (page 10).
Condensation inside the unit. Allow time for condensation to evaporate; avoid using near air-conditioning.
Playback is not possible. Disc is loaded upside down. Reload the disc with the label side face up.
A "mark" appears on screen. The operation is prohibited by the system. The selected function does not operate for that disc.
When making changes in the Setup OSD menus, "DVD" is displayed. A CD or Video CD is loaded and the setting applies only to DVD discs. The settings will take effect next time a DVD is loaded.
Picture playback stops and the operation buttons cannot be used. Press, then start playback again. Switch the power off, then on again using the STANDBY/ON switch.
New settings made in the Setup screen menus while a disc is playing are ineffective. Some settings can be changed but are not effective until the disc is stopped and restarted. Make the same setting when the disc is stopped. Press, then restart playback (►). Note that this may cancel the RESUME function.
Settings are canceled. Power cut due to failure or unplugging the power cord. Settings will be canceled.
No picture/No color. Incorrect video connections. Check connections and ensure plugs are fully inserted.
TV/monitor settings are incorrect. Check the TV/monitor instruction manual.
Screen is stretched or aspect does not change. The TV Screen setting in the Setup menu is incorrect. Set TV Screen Size to match your TV/monitor (page 61).
Picture disturbance during playback or dark. Macro-Vision System copy guard. Some discs may have copy prevention signals causing stripes. This is not a malfunction.
Different discs respond differently to functions. Screen may briefly turn black or shake. This is not a malfunction.
When recorded on a VCR or passed through an AV selector, there is disturbance in the playback picture. Copy protection. Connection through a VCR or AV selector may prevent recording or cause picture problems. This is not a malfunction.
The remote control doesn't seem to work. Remote control is too far or the angle is too wide. Use within operating range (see Setting Up guide).
Batteries are exhausted. Insert new batteries (see Setting Up guide).
No 96kHz signal from the digital audio output. Linear PCM Out is set to 96kHz/48kHz. Set to 96kHz.
Some DVDs do not output 96 kHz audio. Player automatically outputs at 48 kHz. This is not a malfunction.
TV Screen is set to 4:3 (Letter Box). Player outputs DVD audio at 48 kHz. This is not a malfunction.
No audio, or audio is distorted. Dirt, dust, etc. on the disc. Clean the disc (page 98).
Interconnects are not fully inserted or connected. Check that all interconnects are firmly inserted.
Dirty or oxidized plugs/terminals. Clean the plugs/terminals.
Incorrect audio cable connection. Check audio connections (see Setting Up guide).
The disc is paused. Press or to exit pause mode.
Incorrect settings. Check volume, speaker status, input function, etc.
Mute is on. Press mute to switch mute off.
Noticeable difference in DVD and CD volume. DVDs and CDs use different recording methods. This is not a malfunction.
