| Problem | Possible Solution |
| GENERAL | |
|---|---|
| The system does not turn on. | Is the power cord disconnected? (See page 25.) Has the timer been activated? (See page 27.) Check if TV & on the remote control was pressed. If the system indicator is lit red, press TV & on the remote control or STANDBY/ON on the plasma display. |
| Power shuts off unexpectedly. | Is the timer set for shutoff? (See page 59.) Check the power control setting. (See page 58.) The internal temperature of the system has risen. Remove any objects blocking ventilation or cleaning. (See page 16.) External influences such as voltage drops, static electricity, etc., may cause incorrect operation. In this case, use the system after turning off the plasma display first, or unplug the power cord and plug it back in after a minute or two. |
| The system cannot be operated. | Check if the TV button is deactivated. Activate the button when the POWER ON and STANDBY indicators are off. Is the mode switch set correctly? Set it correctly to TV. (See page 15.) Are the batteries inserted with the correct polarity (+, -)? (See page 26.) Are the batteries depleted? (Replace batteries.) (See page 26.) Operate the remote control pointing it towards the plasma display's remote control sensor. (See page 26.) Are you using it under bright light or fluorescent light? Is a fluorescent light illuminating the remote control sensor? Check for obstacles between the remote control and the remote control sensor. |
| The POWER ON indicator or the STANDBY indicator is flashing rapidly. | The internal protection circuit may have been activated. First, turn off the power by unplugging the power cord from the outlet, then turn the power back on after one minute or more. If the problem is not resolved, contact the authorized Pioneer Independent Service Company. |
| IMAGE/SOUND | |
| No image is displayed and no sound is generated. | Is the input source for video or PC accidentally selected while you intend to view a TV channel? (See page 28.) Has parental control been activated? (See page 38.) Enter a password to temporarily disable parental control. (See page 42.) Check the antenna cable connection. (See page 24.) Check the cable connection to other equipment. (See pages 64 to 69.) Are the connections to other components correct? (See pages 64 to 69.) Is an incompatible PC signal being introduced? (See page 68.) Is the picture setting correct? (See page 55.) |
| No image. | Check for obstacles in front of the ambient light sensor. (See pages 13 and 63.) |
| The screen is dark. | Has "Turn off screen" been selected for "Energy Save"? With this option selected, the screen turns off; only audio is generated. To restore the screen display, press any button other than VOL +/- and MUTING. (See page 58.) Has the volume been set to minimum? (See page 29.) Has the sound been muted? (See page 29.) When using video or PC as the input source, check if the audio terminal is also connected. (See pages 64 to 67 and 68.) |
| Sound is generated, but no images. | Are the speaker cable connections inverted between the right and left channels, or is a speaker cable disconnected (for PDP-5080HD only)? (See page 19.) Has the balance been adjusted correctly? (See page 57.) |
| Images are displayed but no sound is generated. | Is the picture position correct? (See page 60.) Is the screen size set correctly? (See page 62.) |
| Sound is reversed between right and left. | Adjust the image tone. (See page 55.) |
| Only sound is generated from one speaker. | Is the room too bright? The image may appear dark in a very bright room. |
| The image is cut off. | After displaying a still image or a very bright image for a certain period, if the screen changes to a darker scene, a residual image may appear. This can be corrected by playing a brighter moving image for several minutes. However, displaying still images for excessively long periods may cause permanent screen deterioration. Display the "Video Pattern" screen to help reduce residual images. (See page 63.) |
