Precautions
General
- Ensure the equipment is in a well-ventilated area with at least 10 cm of free space.
- Do not use oil, solvents, petrol, paint thinners, or insecticides on the unit.
- Do not expose the unit to moisture, extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, strong magnetic fields, excessive dust, humidity, or electronic equipment generating electrical noise.
- Hold the AC power plug by the head when removing it from the socket to prevent damage.
- Remove the AC power plug before cleaning heads, pinch rollers, etc.
- Do not remove the outer cover to avoid electric shock. Refer internal service to SHARP.
- Use the unit on a firm, level surface free from vibration.
- If the unit does not work properly, set the POWER switch to STAND-BY and then to ON again.
- Disconnect the AC power lead during lightning storms for safety.
Warning: Use only the specified voltage to avoid fire or accidents.
Condensation
Sudden temperature changes or high humidity may cause condensation. Leave the power on until normal playback is possible (about 1 hour).
Volume control
Avoid exposure to high volume levels, especially when turning the unit on or listening at high volumes.
Preparation for Use
AC power
Connect the AC power lead to the input socket, then to an AC socket. Remove the AC power lead if the unit is not used for a long period.
Radio Operation
- Set FUNCTION to RADIO.
- Set BAND SELECTOR to FM, MW, or LW.
- Use TUNING control to tune in to the desired station.
- For FM stereo, set FUNCTION to FM STEREO.
- For weak FM reception, set FUNCTION to FM MONO for clearer sound.
To switch off, set POWER to STAND-BY.
Compact Disc Operation
Loading and playing CDs
- Set FUNCTION to CD.
- Press OPEN/CLOSE to open the disc tray.
- Place CD(s) on the tray, label side up. For 8 cm CDs, place them in the middle.
- Press OPEN/CLOSE to close the disc tray.
- Press DISC 1-2 to select the desired disc.
- Press PLAY/REPEAT.
- Adjust VOLUME and X-BASS.
To interrupt playback: Press PAUSE, then PLAY/REPEAT to resume.
To stop playback: Press STOP.
To remove a CD: In stop mode, press OPEN/CLOSE.
To switch off, set POWER to STAND-BY.
Cue and review
Hold CUE for audible fast forward, REVIEW for audible fast reverse.
APSS (Auto Program Search System)
Automatically locates the beginning of any track. Press DOWN for previous track, UP for next track.
Repeat play
Press PLAY/REPEAT to repeat all tracks continuously.
Care of compact discs
Keep discs clean, away from direct sunlight, heat, and moisture. Handle by edges. Clean with a soft, dry cloth.
Cassette Operation
General information
Use normal or low-noise tape for playback. Use only normal tape for recording. Do not use C-120 tapes or poor-quality tapes. Tighten tape slack before loading. Removable tabs prevent accidental recording.
Playback
- Set FUNCTION to TAPE.
- Press STOP/EJECT and load cassette.
- Press PLAY.
- To advance tape, press STOP/EJECT then F FWD. To rewind, press STOP/EJECT then REWIND.
To interrupt playback: Press PAUSE. Press PAUSE again to resume.
To stop playback: Press STOP/EJECT.
Recording
General
Make a preliminary test for important selections. ALC controls input signal level. VOLUME and X-BASS do not affect recorded signal. Metal/CrO2 tapes cannot be used for recording. To erase tape, set FUNCTION to TAPE and press RECORD.
Recording from the built-in radio
- Tune in to the desired station.
- Load cassette.
- Press PAUSE.
- Press RECORD.
- Press PAUSE again to begin recording.
Beat cancel switch: For whistling noise on LW/MW, use this switch for best reception.
To stop recording: Press STOP/EJECT.
Recording from the built-in CD player
- Set FUNCTION to CD.
- Load desired disc.
- Press DISC 1-2 to select disc.
- Load cassette.
- Press RECORD.
- Press PLAY/REPEAT on the CD.
To stop recording: Press STOP/EJECT.
Headphones
Reduce volume before plugging/unplugging. Use headphones with a 3.5 mm plug and 16-50 ohms impedance (32 ohms recommended). Connect to PHONES socket; speakers disconnect automatically. Adjust volume.
Maintenance
Internal care
Clean heads, capstans, pinch rollers with cotton swab and cleaner. Demagnetise heads and capstans every 30 hours of playing/recording time.
External care
Wipe cabinet with a soft cloth and diluted soap solution. Wipe dry. Do not use chemically treated cloths.
