Operation Summary

Accessories:

Remote control (x1), "AA" size batteries (x2), AC power lead (x1).

Precautions:

  • Avoid oil, solvents, high temperatures, direct sunlight, strong magnetic fields, and excessive dust/humidity.
  • Handle the AC power plug by the head to avoid damage.
  • Disconnect AC power before cleaning or if the unit is not in use for long periods.
  • Do not remove the outer cover; high voltages are present.
  • Use the unit on a firm, level surface.
  • In case of lightning, disconnect the AC power lead.
  • Condensation may cause malfunction; allow the unit to acclimatize or run for an hour.
  • CD players use a laser pickup; do not look directly at it.

Power Source:

  • Connect AC power lead to the unit and then to the AC socket (230-240 V, 50 Hz).
  • The AC power lead disconnects batteries when used.
  • For battery power, insert 8 "D" size batteries (UM/SUM-1, R20, HP-2 or similar).
  • Replace batteries when performance is impaired.

Sound Control:

  • Adjust volume using VOLUME UP/DOWN buttons.
  • Use GRAPHIC EQUALIZER for frequency level adjustment.
  • Use X-BASS control for bass emphasis.

Radio Operation:

  • Set POWER to ON, FUNCTION to TUNER, and BAND to FM/LW/MW/SW.
  • Use TUNING control to tune in stations.
  • Set FUNCTION to FM STEREO for stereo reception.
  • Use REC BEAT CANCEL for whistling noises.

CD Operation:

  • Load up to 5 discs.
  • Use DISC NUMBER buttons (1-5) to select discs.
  • Press PLAY/REPEAT to start playback.
  • Use CD PAUSE to interrupt and PLAY/REPEAT to resume.
  • Use STOP to stop playback.
  • APSS allows searching for track beginnings.
  • Cue and review functions allow audible fast forward/reverse.
  • Random play and repeat play can be selected.
  • APMS allows programming up to 32 tracks.

Cassette Operation:

  • Use normal, CrO2, or metal tape for best sound.
  • Tighten tape slack before loading.
  • Removable tabs prevent accidental erasing.
  • TAPE 1: Playback only. TAPE 2: Playback or recording.
  • Press PLAY to start playback.
  • Use STOP to stop playback.
  • Fast forward/rewind is available for TAPE 2.

Recording:

  • Record important selections after a preliminary test.
  • ALC controls input signal level automatically.
  • Record from built-in radio or CD player (synchronised recording).

Dubbing:

  • Dubbing from tape to tape is available.

Headphones:

  • Use headphones with a 3.5 mm plug and 16-50 ohms impedance.
  • Connect to PHONES socket; speakers disconnect automatically.

Maintenance:

  • Clean pickup gently with a dry cotton swab.
  • Clean heads, capstans, pinch rollers with a cotton swab and cleaner.
  • Demagnetise heads, capstans every 30 hours of use.
  • Wipe cabinet with a soft cloth and diluted soap solution.

Troubleshooting and error codes

Problem Possible Cause Solution
CD player not working, "Error" displayed Batteries exhausted Replace batteries or use AC power.
Discs jammed Load CD properly; contact service if unresolved.
CD disc holder moves slowly or stops Batteries exhausted Replace batteries or use AC power.
CD may not play back properly / discs may jam Unit not on a level surface Place unit on a level surface.
