Finisher Operation Summary

The Finisher section manages the post-print processing of documents. Key functions include:

  • Stacking: Paper is stacked neatly in the output tray, with options for offset stacking to prevent misprints from mixing.
  • Stapling: Documents can be stapled with various configurations (1-point, 2-point) for different paper sizes and types.
  • Staple-Free Stapling: A method to bind documents without staples, crimping the paper together.
  • Punching: The Punch Unit can create 2, 2/3, 2/4, or 4-hole punches in documents.
  • Paper Handling: Includes features for paper alignment, divided delivery for specific stack sizes, and paper retainer operation to secure stacks.
  • Detection: Sensors monitor paper presence, stack height, and jam occurrences to ensure smooth operation.
  • Power Supply: Provides power to the finisher's components from the main unit.

Maintenance involves regular checks, cleaning, and replacements of parts like staple cartridges and rollers to ensure optimal performance.

Troubleshooting and error codes

Jam type Sensor A jam is detected when
Delivery sensor delay jam FNPS1 The Delivery sensor (FNPS1) does not detect paper even when the specified time has elapsed after receiving a paper reception notification signal from the host machine.
Delivery sensor stationary jam FNPS1 The delivery sensor does not turn off even when the specified time has elapsed after the Delivery sensor (FNPS1) detects paper.
Early timing jam - The next paper reception notification signal is detected earlier than the specified time after the previous paper reception notification signal is received from the host machine.
Power-on jam FNPS1 The Delivery sensor (FNPS1) detects paper during power-on or after recovering from sleep mode.
Door open jam FNMSW1 The Front cover switch (FNMSW1) detects that the front cover has been opened during operation.
Stapler staple jam - The ECO Staple HP Sensor cannot detect the stapler even after the specified time has lapsed since the stapler passed through the ECO Staple HP Sensor when stapling is executed.
Warm-up rotation jam FNPS1 The Delivery sensor (FNPS1) detects paper during warm-up rotation.
Staple-free staple jam - Error: Clinch motor drive detection sensor (FNPS13) cannot detect clock pulses even after the Clinch motor (FNM9) is driven for 0.24 to 0.25 seconds. And, the Clinch home position sensor (FNPS15) does not turn on even after the clinch motor (M9) is driven for 0.25 seconds.
Error avoidance jam - Any of the following errors is detected during feeding operation. Assist motor error (E514) Paddle motor error (E516) Rear alignment motor error (E530) Stapler shift motor error (E532) Return belt motor error (E535) Front alignment motor error (E537) Tray shift motor error (E540) Paddle motor error (E577)
Paper feed cancellation jam - The finisher receives a paper feed cancellation instruction from the host machine for paper delivered according to a paper reception notification signal.
Manual stack insertion jam - A paper stack is inserted in the manual staple slit while the stapler unit is moving. This is not detected when the stapler unit is moving to the staple replacement position.
Operation preparation/ completion response timeout jam - A start response cannot be returned within 60 seconds of receiving a start request signal. An operation completion response cannot be returned within 60 seconds of receiving an operation completion request signal.
