Getting Started

  • Unpacking: Check that you have all the items listed, including speakers, subwoofer, antennas, cords, remote, batteries, foot pads, and manuals.
  • Inserting Batteries into the Remote: Insert two Size AA (R6) batteries, matching the + and - ends. Point the remote at the sensor on the system.
  • Hookup Overview: Follow steps 1-7 for connections and settings: Speaker System Hookup, Antenna Hookup, TV Hookup, Other Component Hookup, AC Power Cord connection, Turning off Demonstration, and Performing Quick Setup.
  • Speaker System Hookup: Connect speakers using color-coded cords. Refer to page 71 for speaker parameters to optimize surround sound.
  • Antenna (Aerial) Hookup: Connect AM/FM antennas for radio listening. Keep AM antenna away from system components to prevent noise. Ensure FM antenna is fully extended and horizontal.
  • TV Hookup: Connect video and audio cords. Connect the video output to the TV's input (VIDEO IN, S VIDEO IN, or COMPONENT VIDEO IN) for DVD playback. Connect TV's audio output to the system's VIDEO/SAT (AUDIO IN) for TV sound through system speakers.

Troubleshooting and error codes

Symptom Possible Cause Solution
No sound is heard from a speaker during test tone output. Speaker is short-circuited. Check the speaker connection again.
Test tone is output from a speaker other than the one displayed on the Setup Display. Speaker is short-circuited. Check the speaker connection again.
Sound lacks bass or is distorted. Speaker cords are reversed. Be sure to match the speaker cord to the appropriate terminal on the components: + to +, and – to –.
No TV sound from system speakers. TV does not have AUDIO OUT jacks. This system cannot output TV sound from the speakers if your TV does not have AUDIO OUT jacks.
If you connect a TV to the VIDEO/SAT (AUDIO IN) jacks, other components, such as a VCR, cannot be connected. Connection conflict. You cannot connect other components if the TV is connected to the VIDEO/SAT (AUDIO IN) jacks.
