Getting Started

  • Detaching/Attaching the Front Panel: For theft prevention, detach and reattach the front panel.
  • Resetting the Unit: Reset for first-time use, after battery replacement, or connection changes.
  • Setting the Clock: Manually set the clock or use AUTO .
  • Checking Battery Voltage: Press DSPL repeatedly to view battery voltage.

Preparing Devices

  • BLUETOOTH Device: Pair and connect smartphones, phones, and audio devices. Supports NFC one-touch connection for MEX-N5300BT.
  • USB Device: Connect USB flash drives, digital media players, or smartphones (AOA 2.0, MSC, MTP compliant).
  • Other Portable Audio Device: Connect via AUX input jack.

Listening Modes

  • Radio: Tune in manually or automatically, store stations, use RDS features.
  • SiriusXM Radio (MEX-N5300BT only): Activate subscription, select channels, set parental controls.
  • Pandora®: Stream music via Bluetooth-connected iPhone/Android smartphone.

Playback & Calling

  • Playback: Play discs, USB devices, or Bluetooth audio. Features repeat and shuffle play, Quick-BrowZer™ search.
  • Handsfree Calling: Connect phone via Bluetooth for receiving/making calls, redial, voice dialing.

Useful Functions

  • "Sony | Music Center" App: Control compatible Sony audio devices via smartphone.
  • Voice Recognition (Android only): Use voice commands for operation.
  • "Siri Eyes Free" (iPhone only): Use Siri handsfree.

Settings

  • Canceling DEMO Mode: Disable the demonstration display.
  • Basic Setting Operation: Access General, Sound, Display, Bluetooth, and "Sony | Music Center" setup menus.

Troubleshooting and error codes

Problem Solution
Echo or noise in phone call conversations. Lower the volume. Set EC/NC Mode to [EC/NC-1] or [EC/NC-2]. Reduce ambient noise.
Phone is not connected. Connect from the phone.
Phone sound quality is poor. Move car to a location with better cellular signal.
Volume of connected audio device is low. Adjust the volume of the connected audio device or this unit.
Sound skips during Bluetooth audio playback. Reduce distance between unit and device. Remove device from case. Turn off other devices emitting radio waves. Increase distance from other devices. (Momentary stop during connection is normal.)
Connected Bluetooth audio device cannot be controlled. Check if device supports AVRCP.
Some functions do not work. Check if the connecting device supports the functions.
Call answered unintentionally. Set the phone to answer calls manually.
Pairing failed due to timeout. Complete pairing within the time limit.
Cannot pair. Delete pairing information from the Bluetooth device and pair again.
Bluetooth function cannot operate. Turn the unit off for more than 2 seconds, then turn it on again.
No sound from car speakers during handsfree call. Set the cellular phone to output sound from car speakers.
"Siri Eyes Free" is not activated. Perform registration, enable Siri, reconnect Bluetooth.
"Sony | Music Center" operation issues. Launch application again. Check Bluetooth connection. Ensure device mode compatibility.
Pandora® operation issues. Check network connection. Restart Pandora® app. Log in again. Ensure Bluetooth device is connected. Create station on mobile device. Wait for commercials. Update Pandora® app.
SiriusXM operation issues. Check channel status (locked, unavailable, unsubscribed). Check tuner connection/status. Check antenna connection/status. Enter correct passcode. Ensure signal reception.
