Getting Started

  • Resetting the unit: Press the RESET button with a pointed object after removing the front panel.
  • Detaching the front panel: Press OFF, then RELEASE and slide the panel left and pull towards you.
  • Setting the clock: Press DSPL for 2 seconds, then use the volume buttons to set hour/minute.

Cassette Player

  • Listening to a tape: Insert cassette, playback starts automatically.
  • To stop playback and eject: Press .
  • Fast-winding: Press or during playback.

Radio

  • Storing stations automatically (BTM): Select radio source, select band, press BTM/ATA for 2 seconds.
  • Storing desired stations: Select radio, select band, use SEEK to tune, press number button until MEM appears.
  • Receiving stored stations: Select radio, select band, press desired number button.

Other Functions

  • Adjusting balance/fader: Press SEL until BAL or FAD appears, use volume buttons to adjust.
  • Attenuating sound: Press ATT. Press ATT again to restore.
  • Changing sound/display settings: Press SEL + number button (3 for A.SCRL, 4 for M.DSPL, 6 for BEEP).
  • Setting equalizer (EQ3): Select source, press EQ3 to select curve, adjust curve using SEL and volume buttons.

With Optional Equipment

  • Playing CD/MD: Press SOURCE to select CD/MD, press MODE until desired unit appears.
  • Changing display item: Press DSPL during playback.
  • Repeat Play: Press REP (3) until desired setting (REP-TRACK, REP-DISC, REP-OFF) appears.
  • Shuffle Play: Press SHUF (4) until desired setting (SHUF-DISC, SHUF-CHGR, SHUF-ALL, SHUF-OFF) appears.

Troubleshooting and error codes

General Problem Cause/Solution
No sound. • Cancel the ATT function (page 10).
• Set the fader control to the center position for 2-speaker systems.

The contents of the memory have been erased. • The power cord or battery has been disconnected.
• The RESET button was pressed.
→ Store again into the memory.
Indications do not appear in the display. Remove the front panel and clean the connectors. See "Cleaning the connectors” (page 14) for details.
Tape playback Problem Cause/Solution
The sound is distorted. The tape head is contaminated.
→ Clean the head with a commercially available dry-type cleaning cassette.
Radio reception Problem Cause/Solution
Preset tuning is not possible. • Store the correct frequency in the memory.
• The broadcast signal is too weak.
Automatic tuning is not possible. • The broadcast signal is too weak.
→ Use manual tuning.
• The local seek mode is set to ON.
→ Set the local seek mode to OFF (page 9).
The stations cannot be received. Connect an power antenna control lead (blue) or accessory power supply lead (red) to the power supply lead of a car's antenna booster. (When your car has built-in FM/AM antenna in the rear/side glass only.)
The sound is hampered by noises. • Tune in the frequency accurately.
• The broadcast signal is too weak.

The "ST" indication flashes. • Tune in the frequency accurately.
• The broadcast signal is too weak.
→ Set to monaural mode (page 9).
CD/MD playback Problem Cause/Solution
The sound skips. A dirty or defective disc.
