Getting Started:

  • Charge and install the battery pack using the AC power adaptor.
  • Insert a Hi8 video cassette.

Basic Operations:

  • Set the POWER switch to CAMERA.
  • Turn STANDBY up.
  • Press START/STOP to begin recording. The REC indicator and red lamp will light up.
  • To stop recording momentarily, press START/STOP again.
  • To finish recording, press START/STOP, turn STANDBY down, and set POWER to OFF.
  • Use EDITSEARCH to review recorded scenes.
  • Connect to a TV or VCR for playback using the A/V connecting cable.
  • Playback modes include pause, picture search, skip scan, slow playback, and double speed playback (CCD-TR910 only).

Advanced Operations:

  • Use alternative power sources like house current or the battery case.
  • Adjust mode settings via the menu system.

Troubleshooting and error codes

Picture Cause and/or Corrective Action
The image on the viewfinder screen is not clear. • The viewfinder lens is not adjusted. → Adjust the viewfinder lens. (p.11)
A vertical band appears when a subject such as lights or a candle flame is shot against a dark background. • The contrast between the subject and background is too high. → The camcorder is not malfunctioning. → Change locations.
A vertical band appears when shooting a very bright subject. • The camcorder is not malfunctioning.
The playback picture is not clear. • EDIT is set to ON in the menu system. → Set it to OFF. (p.24)
The picture is "noisy". • The video heads may be dirty. → Clean the heads using the Sony V8-25CLH cleaning cassette (not supplied). (p.63)
An unknown picture is displayed. • The camcorder is operating in Demo mode. → Exit Demo mode. (p.74)
Others Cause and/or Corrective Action
The supplied Remote Commander does not work. • COMMANDER is set to OFF in the menu system. → Set it to ON. (p.24)
• Something is blocking the infrared rays. → Remove the obstacle.
• The batteries are not inserted with the correct polarity. → Insert the batteries with the correct polarity. (p.75)
• The batteries are dead. → Insert new ones. (p.75)
The tape counter/RC time code indicator or the Date or Time indicator flashes in the viewfinder. (CCD-TR910 only) The lithium battery in the camcorder becomes weak. → Replace the lithium battery with a new one. (p.56)
The DATE or the TIME indicator becomes --:--. (CCD-TR910 only) Reset the date or the time again.
