This guide provides a quick reference for the SONY PXW-FS7M2 camcorder. It is intended to be used in conjunction with the user manual.
Save your favorite settings as an "All File" for quick switching between modes or sharing across cameras. This requires an SD card.
The camera offers two main operating modes: Custom Mode and Cine EI Mode. Custom Mode behaves like a conventional video camera, displaying the recorded image in the viewfinder. Cine EI Mode captures a wider dynamic range with a flatter image, allowing for extensive post-production grading.
Key preparation steps include executing the APR function for optimal image quality, selecting the appropriate frame rate, frame size, and recording codec (XAVC-I recommended), and choosing between Custom and Cine EI modes.
Understanding shutter speed and shutter angle is crucial for motion portrayal and avoiding flicker. Settings should align with the local mains electricity frequency.
In Custom Mode, gain can be adjusted in dB or ISO. It is recommended to use the lowest possible gain for best results, as increasing gain also increases noise. For Cine EI mode, refer to the Exposure Index section.
