Overview

The PCWA-C300S is a PC Card type wireless network card supporting IEEE 802.11g at 2.4 GHz with a speed of 54 Mbps. It allows computers to communicate wirelessly and exchange data without physical connections. The supplied Wireless Panel software enables easy configuration for multiple networks, including switching between Access Point (Infrastructure) and Peer to Peer (Ad-Hoc) connection modes.

Getting Started

Installation involves inserting the Wireless LAN PC Card into your computer, then using the supplied CD-ROM to install the device driver and Wireless Panel software via an easy-to-use wizard. The manual details steps for both Windows Me/2000 and Windows XP operating systems.

Wireless LAN Connection

The document explains how to establish connections, including Access Point connection settings and Peer to Peer network connection mode. It guides users through configuring network names (SSID), WEP encryption, and connecting to access points.

Troubleshooting

A troubleshooting section addresses common issues such as the computer not detecting the card, inability to see other computers on the network, or problems accessing the Internet. Solutions involve checking card insertion, Windows network settings, and access point configuration.

Troubleshooting and error codes

Symptom Possible Causes/Solutions
My computer does not detect the Wireless LAN PC Card. Verify that the Wireless LAN PC Card is inserted correctly into the slot. Ensure you are inserting the card in the correct direction and push it in as far as possible.
I cannot see any other computers on the network. You may not have entered a password when starting Windows. Enter the correct username and password when starting Windows. Windows network settings may be incorrect. Verify the network settings in Windows. If no other computers are on the network to which you are connected, no computers will be displayed.
I cannot access the Internet. The access point is not connected. Follow the instructions in the access point's user manual to connect it correctly. The Wireless LAN PC Card is not inserted correctly into your computer. Follow the instructions on page 17 to insert it correctly. Communication is not established between the access point and your computer. Check the communication status using Wireless Panel. For more information on checking communication status, see "Checking the communication status" on page 24. The access point is not configured correctly. Configure the access point using your chosen connection method. The distance between the computer and the access point is too great. The maximum distance is approximately 45 meters without obstacles, but this can vary depending on usage conditions. Check the signal strength indicator in the Windows taskbar. If the level is too low, move the computer and the access point closer together.
Data transmission rate is slow. There are interferences with other access points. Try changing the channel settings of the access point. The network must support a significant volume of simultaneous traffic. Try again when the network is less busy. The communication distance is too long. Reduce the communication distance. There are obstacles (objects blocking radio transmissions) within the communication range. Remove these obstacles or relocate the installation.
I don't remember the WEP Key. If you are using an access point, reset its default settings. For more information on resetting the access point, consult its accompanying documentation. If you are using a PC Card LAN in a peer-to-peer network, delete the network settings saved on each computer connected to the network and reconfigure the wireless network settings for the computer.
