| Mouse pointer jumps or moves slowly | Ensure the mouse is on a lusterless surface or mouse pad. Avoid light-transmissive, light-reflecting, consistent pattern, or glossy surfaces. |
| Forget Windows password | Passwords are case-sensitive. Log in with an administrator account to reset. System recovery is needed if administrator passwords are forgotten. |
| Enter Onetime Password message appears and Windows does not start | Press and hold the power button for over four seconds to turn off the power indicator. Restart and enter the correct password. Onetime passwords are case-sensitive. Forgetting the power-on password prevents starting the VAIO computer. |
| Built-in digital compass does not show the correct direction | Compass works by detecting magnetic direction; do not rely solely on its location information. Accuracy can be affected by magnetic interference in elevators, rooms with ferrous materials, reinforced concrete structures, trains, cars, transformers, metallic products, magnets, and speakers. Calibrating the compass may help. |
| Computer screen does not rotate | Screen rotation may be disabled. Press the rotation lock button. Rotation is disabled when connected to an external display. Connecting to an external display while in portrait orientation automatically switches to landscape. |
| Cannot reinstall original apps and drivers | Use VAIO Care to restore preinstalled apps and drivers. Select Advanced Tools, Restore and recovery, and Reinstall Applications and Drivers. Refer to the VAIO Care help file. |
| Cannot restore VAIO computer system to factory default settings | Recover from Recovery Media or the recovery area. |
| Cannot create Recovery Media | Try suggestions: download and install latest updates via VAIO Update, restart the computer, use AC adapter for external optical disc drive. Try other media. Visit VAIO online support if problems persist. |
| Cannot recover VAIO computer from the recovery area | Recover from Recovery Media if the recovery area has been modified. Visit VAIO online support if problems persist. |
| Cannot start/complete the recovery process | Disconnect unnecessary external devices. Check Recovery Media condition. Restart and try recovery again. If using USB optical drive/flash drive, connect to another USB 2.0 port. Visit VAIO online support if problems persist. |
| VAIO computer becomes unstable (Windows does not start) | Restore system files. Use a restore point. Restore from system image backup. Back up files with VAIO Care (Rescue Mode). Use VAIO Hardware Diagnostics. Follow instructions for Recovering from the Recovery Area. Back up data with VAIO Care (Rescue Mode) before recovering. Note: Recovery deletes all data. |
