Safety Check-Out

After service, perform these safety checks before returning the camera to the customer:

  • Check for unsoldered or poorly-soldered connections, solder splashes, and bridges.
  • Ensure interboard wiring is not pinched or touching high-wattage resistors.
  • Identify and recommend replacement of unauthorized or deteriorated parts.
  • Verify B+ voltage against specifications.

Flexible Circuit Board Repairing

  • Use a soldering iron tip at approximately 350°C.
  • Avoid touching the same conductor multiple times.
  • Do not apply excessive force when soldering or unsoldering.

Unleaded Solder

This unit uses unleaded solder. Boards requiring it are marked with "LF".

  • Soldering iron tip temperature: approx. 350°C. If temperature control is unavailable, solder/unsolder quickly at high temperature.
  • Be careful not to peel the copper foil by applying the heated tip for too long.
  • Unleaded solder is viscous; take care to avoid solder bridges, especially on IC pins.
  • Use separate soldering iron tips for unleaded and leaded solder to prevent detachment.

Fine-Wire Coaxial Cable

  • Disconnect connectors by the connector, not the wires.
  • Connect connectors by the connector, not the wires.

Flash Capacitor Discharging

The flash capacitor is charged at high voltage and poses an electric shock risk.

  • The charge does not dissipate when power is off.
  • Use a Short Jig to discharge the capacitor.
  • Prepare a Short Jig with a 1 kΩ/1 W resistor and small clips on each lead, with the resistor and leads fully insulated.
  • Peel off insulating sheet, then short-circuit capacitor terminals for about 10 seconds.

Troubleshooting and error codes

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Solder bridge on IC pins Viscous unleaded solder not flowing correctly Use caution to avoid bridges.
Detachment phenomenon Mixing unleaded and leaded solder Use separate soldering iron tips for each type of solder.
Electric shock from flash capacitor Failure to discharge capacitor Use the Short Jig to discharge the capacitor for approximately 10 seconds.
