Getting Started
Checking the box contents: Ensure all items are received: Main unit, Cradle, USB cable, Car battery adapter, TMC antenna (NV-U94T only), Quick Start Guide, Important Information, End-User License Agreement, Warranty Card.
Location of controls: Familiarize yourself with the unit's buttons and indicators, including the power switch, microphone, MENU button, VOICE/POS. button, display, Bluetooth indicator, and charging indicator.
Installation/Connection: Attach the cradle to your car's dashboard or windshield using the suction cup. Connect the car battery adapter to the cigarette lighter socket. Attach the unit to the cradle and adjust the monitor angle.
Navigation
Turning on the unit: Park in a safe location with a clear sky view. Slide the power switch. Follow the on-screen Startup Configuration Wizard. Agree to the warning. Touch VOICE/POS. and wait for GPS signal lock.
Main menu: Access various functions like Navigate, Enter Address, Take Me Home, Find a Place, My Places, and Settings.
Searching by address: Use MENU to enter an address by house number, street name, and city name. Touch "Go!" to start navigation.
Searching by POI: Use MENU to "Find a Place." Select "Points of Interest" and then search "By Name" or by "Category." Touch "Go." to navigate to the selected POI.
Map display: Understand the map elements including distance/ETA, next turn instruction, current speed, and GPS status.
Troubleshooting and error codes

| The unit does not turn on. | Charge the built-in battery. Check car battery adapter connection. |
| The unit turns on automatically (display remains off). (NV-U94T/U84 only) | Excessive internal temperature may cause the unit to enter battery discharge mode. |
| The CHG indicator is off even while the adapter is connected. (NV-U94T/U84 only) | The CHG indicator turns off during battery discharge mode. |
| The built-in battery cannot be charged. | Turn the unit on/off. Disconnect/reconnect car battery adapter. Turn on computer during USB charge. Battery may not charge between 5-45°C. |
| The LCD is not displayed normally. | LCD may darken in high temperatures or show afterimage in low temperatures. These are not malfunctions. |
| The cradle comes off the attachment surface. | Clean the suction cup and attachment surface. |
| GPS signal cannot be received. | Check GPS status. Move car to a place with a clear sky view. Ensure no obstacles are in front of the antenna. Consider optional External GPS Antenna. |
| The car position on the map does not match the current road. | GPS signal error margin may be too large. |
| Voice guidance cannot be heard. | Raise the volume. |
| The demonstration mode starts automatically even if no operation is performed. | Turn off auto demonstration mode in "General" settings. |
| Bluetooth function (NV-U94T/U74T only) - Connecting device cannot detect unit. | Set "Bluetooth Signal" to "ON." Disconnect current connection and search again. |
| Bluetooth connection is not possible. | Perform pairing again. Check pairing procedures on other device. Verify compatibility on Sony website. Search from the other device. |
| The name of the detected device does not appear. | Perform pairing again. |
| The caller's voice volume is low. | Adjust volume. |

| Photo playback is not possible. | Ensure a "Memory Stick Duo" with JPEG files (max 12 mega) is inserted. |
| Audio playback is not possible. | Ensure a "Memory Stick Duo" with MP3 or AAC-LC files is inserted, within specified sampling frequencies and bit rates. |
| Video playback is not possible. | Ensure a "Memory Stick Duo" with MP4 files (QVGA resolution) is inserted. |
