Starting the Engine

  • For Electric-Start Models: Hold the blade-control bar, insert the electric-start button, and push to start.
  • For Recoil-Start Models: Hold the blade-control bar, pull the recoil-start handle (pull lightly until resistance, then sharply). Allow rope to return slowly.

Using the Self-Propel Drive

Walk with hands on the upper handle; the machine will keep pace.

Shutting Off the Engine

Release the blade-control bar. The engine should stop within 3 seconds. Remove the electric-start button when leaving the machine.

Clipping Management

  • Recycling: Ensure rear plug is locked.
  • Bagging: Install grass bag by raising rear deflector, removing plug, hanging bag, and lowering deflector.
  • Discharging: Remove bag, install rear plug, attach side-discharge chute.

Troubleshooting and error codes

Problem Possible Cause Remedy
Engine does not start. • Spark plug wire is disconnected. • Connect the spark plug wire to the spark plug.
• No fuel in the tank. • Fill the fuel tank.
• Fuel is stale. • Drain and refill the fuel tank with fresh fuel.
• Electric-start button not inserted (electric-start models). • Insert the electric-start button.
• Engine is flooded. • Wait 10 minutes and try starting again.
• Fouled spark plug. • Clean or replace the spark plug.
• Engine has a blown fuse (electric-start models). • Replace the fuse.
Engine runs rough. • Stale fuel. • Drain and refill the fuel tank with fresh fuel.
• Air filter is dirty. • Clean or replace the air filter.
• Incorrect oil level. • Check and adjust the oil level.
Machine does not propel. • Drive control is not engaged. • Engage the drive control.
• Self-propel drive is out of adjustment. • Adjust the self-propel drive.
Blade stops or engine stalls. • Engine is too cold. • Allow the engine to warm up.
• Mowing very tall, thick, or wet grass. • Adjust the cutting height or mow more frequently.
• Clogged deck. • Clean the underside of the machine.
