Before Operation: Ensure the area is clear of objects, check guards and safety devices, inspect blades for wear. For electric-start models, do not insert the electric-start button until ready to start. Check engine oil level and fill fuel tank outdoors with fresh fuel. For electric-start models, charge the battery.

Starting the Engine: Use either the electric-start button or the recoil-start handle. For electric-start, hold the blade-control bar, insert the button, and push to start. For recoil-start, hold the blade-control bar and pull the recoil handle sharply after feeling resistance.

During Operation: Wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Operate with full attention and avoid distractions. Do not operate when ill or under the influence. Be aware of the sharp blade and stop the engine before servicing. If the machine strikes an object or vibrates excessively, shut off the engine immediately, disconnect the spark plug wire, and inspect for damage.

After Operation: Shut off the engine, remove the electric-start button, and wait for parts to stop. Clean grass and debris from under the machine. For best results, clean shortly after mowing. Allow the engine to cool before storing.

Storage: Store in a cool, clean, dry place. Prepare the machine by adding fuel stabilizer, running the engine dry, and lubricating the cylinder. Charge battery for electric-start models.
