BASIC OPERATION

  1. Press the POWER button to turn the unit ON.
  2. Press OPEN/CLOSE to open the disc tray.
  3. Place a disc with the label side up and close the disc tray.
  4. Select the disc play mode (1DISC or 5DISC) using the MODE button.
  5. Press PLAY to start playback from the first track. Use DISC SKIP or DISC-select buttons to choose a specific disc if needed.
  6. To turn off the power, press the POWER button again.

Other Operations:

  • To stop play temporarily: Press PAUSE. Press PAUSE or PLAY to resume.
  • To stop play completely: Press STOP.
  • Direct Play: Use numeric buttons to select a desired track.
  • Skip Play: Use SKIP buttons to play the next or previous track.
  • Manual Search: Press and hold SKIP/SEARCH to advance or reverse rapidly within a track.
  • Disc Scan: Press DISC SCAN to play the beginning of each disc for 8 seconds.
  • Selecting Time Displays: Use the TIME button to cycle through elapsed time, remaining time, and total disc time.
  • Changing Display Brightness: Use the DIMMER button.
  • Repeat Play: Press REPEAT to cycle through OFF, SINGLE REPEAT (REP S), and FULL REPEAT (REP F).
  • Index Search: Select a track with index numbers and press INDEX to start from a desired index.
  • CD Synchronized Recording: Use the SYNCHRO button with a compatible YAMAHA tape deck.
  • Track Programming for Recording to Tape: Use TAPE button to set tape length and program tracks automatically or manually.
  • Automatic Searching for Peak Level: Use PEAK button to find and repeat the loudest part of a disc for recording level adjustment.

Troubleshooting and error codes

SYMPTOM PROBABLE CAUSE REMEDY
The player does not switch ON when the POWER switch is pressed. The power cord is not connected or not completely connected. Securely connect the power cord.
The disc tray does not close completely. A foreign object is obstructing the tray. Carefully check the disc tray and remove the foreign object.
A disc number does not light up in the display. The disc has been loaded upside down. Load the disc correctly.
Play does not begin. The disc is damaged. Check the disc carefully; replace it if necessary.
Play is delayed, or begins at the wrong place. There is moisture on the laser pickup. Wait 20 to 30 minutes after switching the unit ON before trying to play a disc.
No sound. Improper output cable connections. Connect the cables properly. If the problem persists, the cables may be defective.
Sound "skips". This unit is being subjected to vibrations or impacts. Relocate this unit.
Sound "hums". Improper cable connections. Securely connect the audio cables. If the problem persists, the cables may be defective.
Noise from a nearby tuner. The tuner is too close to this unit. Move the tuner and this unit farther apart.
Noise from inside of the disc tray. The disc may be warped. Replace the disc.
The remote control transmitter does not work. The batteries of this remote control transmitter are too weak. Replace the batteries with new ones.
The remote control transmitter does not work. Direct sunlight or lighting (of an inverter type of fluorescent lamp etc.) is striking the remote control sensor of the main unit. Change position of the main unit.
