Before using your microwave oven
Read through the manual, follow recommendations for best results. Retain for future reference.
Safety Instructions
- Interlock switches prevent operation with door open. Do not tamper.
- Keep door seals clean. Ensure door closes properly and is undamaged.
- Hazardous to service except by authorized personnel.
- Do not remove outer case. High voltage risk.
- Install according to instructions.
- Use only for intended purpose (heating, cooking, defrosting food).
- Do not operate empty; risk of magnetron damage.
- Do not store outdoors or near water.
- Do not dry clothing or newspapers.
- Do not use cavity for storage.
- If smoke is observed, switch off, unplug, keep door closed. Never use water.
- Only allow children/infirm supervised use with adequate instructions.
Utensil safety
Glass, glass ceramic, heat-resistant glassware are suitable. Utensils can get hot. Use oven gloves.
Testing suitability of cookware
- Check suitability by heating a glass of water in the utensil for 1 minute at 750W. If hot, do not use. If slightly warm, use for reheating only. If room temp, suitable for cooking.
- Paper, wax paper, paper towels, plates, cups, cartons, freezer wrap, cardboard are convenient. Ensure containers are filled with food.
- Many plastics are suitable; follow manufacturer's instructions. Avoid plastic with high fat/sugar content.
- Do not leave unattended when heating/cooking in plastic, paper, or combustible containers.
- Metal or metallic trim utensils are generally not suitable.
- Containers with restricted openings (bottles) should not be used.
- Use caution removing lids to avoid steam burns.
Foil containers
Shallow foil containers (max 3cm deep) can be used for reheating if: foil lids are not used, containers are at least two-thirds full, used singly, and do not touch sides. Place on upturned oven-proof plate if necessary. Do not re-use.
Food safety
- Do not heat food in cans.
- Do not deep fat fry.
- Popcorn only in specially designed packages/utensils. Never unattended.
- Pierce foods with non-porous skins to prevent bursting.
- Stir/shake baby food/feeding bottles and check temperature.
- WARNING: Do not heat liquids/foods in sealed containers (explode).
- WARNING: Microwave heating of beverages can cause delayed eruptive boiling. Take care.
- WARNING: When heating liquids, avoid overheating without bubbling; can cause sudden boil-over. Steps: avoid straight-sided containers, do not overheat, stir before and during heating, allow to stand.
- WARNING: Some products (whole eggs, sealed jars) may explode. Pierce poached eggs, cover, allow standing time.
- WARNING: Do not use for commercial purposes.
How to operate your microwave oven
Name and function of parts
1. Cooking compartment, 2. Viewing window, 3. Oven door, 4. Latch hook & Safety interlock system, 5. Control panel, 6. Turntable support, 7. Turntable, 8. Drive shaft for turntable.
Turntable installation
Place support on cavity bottom, then turntable on top, ensuring hub is locked. Never place upside down. Both must be used. Food is always placed on the turntable. It rotates clockwise and anticlockwise.
Control panel
1. Display Window, 2. 10 Seconds button, 3. 1 Minute button, 4. 10 Minutes button, 5. Power setting button, 6. Start/Reset button.
Stopping and resetting your oven
Hold Start/Reset for 3 secs to stop without opening door. Open door to stop. Touch Start to continue. Touch Start/Reset once with door open to reset if food removed before time complete.
Quick Start
Touch Start/Reset for 1 min full power (750W). Max 30 mins. Ideal for reheating small quantities. Repeated pressing adds 1 min. Stir liquids, check food temp.
Child safety lock
Prevents accidental operation. To set: Press and hold '1min/1.0Kg' and '10Sec/01.Kg' for 2 secs. To cancel: Repeat.
Microwave Cooking
1. Place food, close door. 2. Set power level. 3. Set time. 4. Press Start. To turn off: hold Start/Reset.
Example: To cook at P 5 (375W) for 15 minutes: Press Power 3 times (P 5), press 10min once (10.0), press 1min/1.0Kg 5 times (15.0), press Start.
Note: Press Start/Reset whilst door is open after use to reset.
Manual Defrosting
Use 75W. For dense foods over 450g, start on 750W for 1-3 mins, then reduce to 75W.
Example: To defrost at P 1 (75W) for 6 minutes: Press Power 5 times (P 1), press 1min/1.0Kg 6 times (6.0), press Start.
Microwave Power setting Guide
- 75W (P1): 10% - Manual Defrost, Thawing frozen foods.
- 225W (P3): 30% - Simmer, Pot roasts, Casseroles, stews.
- 375W (P5): 50% - Medium, Faster defrosting/reheating casseroles/stews, Baking cakes/puddings.
- 525W (P7): 70% - Reheat, Roasting joints/poultry.
- 750W (P10): 100% - Max Power, Boiling/reheating liquids, Cooking vegetables, Preheating browning dish.
Defrosting instructions using 75W (P 1)
Instructions for bread, cakes/pastry, butter, fruit, plated meal, and vegetables. Includes preparation, defrosting time, and standing time.
Automatic defrost by weight
1. Place food, close door. 2. Press Power setting button (dEF). 3. Set weight. 4. Press Start. To turn off: touch Start/Reset.
Note: Oven automatically selects power/time. Max weight 2.0Kg. Split larger items. Do not defrost if item cannot be split.
Example: To defrost 1200g: Press Power 6 times (dEF), press 1min/1.0Kg once (1.0), press 10Sec/01.Kg twice (1.2), press Start.
Defrosting Tips
- Underestimate time; food defrosts during standing.
- Separate food early.
- Turn large items halfway.
- Remove thawed food promptly.
- Remove/open packaging.
- Use larger container for stirring.
- Poultry: breast down, turn halfway. Shield delicate areas with foil.
- Standing time is crucial for large/dense foods.
Microwave Hints
- Keep oven clean.
- Prefer round/oval casseroles with lids.
- Do not use metal/metal decorated casseroles.
- Plastic can warp.
- Cover food.
- Defrost pastry/bread on paper towel/basket.
- Open packaged frozen food. Remove metal clips.
- Use small foil pieces to cover overcooking parts.
- Pierce peel/skin. Do not boil eggs.
- Place thick pieces near edge. Cut food evenly. Place food centrally.
- Stir/turn food for even cooking.
- Set shorter cooking time than recipe.
- Use little/no water for vegetables. Season afterwards.
- Allow 'standing' time for complete results.
- Ensure food is piping hot.
- Use pot holders/gloves.
Microwave Tips
- Softening Honey: Microwave jar (lid off) on medium for 2 mins.
- Melting Chocolate: Break 100g into squares, heat on high for 1-2 mins, stir.
- Softening/Melting Butter: Few seconds on high, or gentler on low.
- Freshen/Warm Bread: Medium power for few seconds.
- Peeling Garlic: Heat 3-4 cloves on high for 15 secs, squeeze.
- Fruit Juice: Heat citrus fruits on high for 15 secs before squeezing.
- Cooking Porridge: Cook in serving dish. Follow manufacturer's recommendations.
Care and cleaning
- Keep oven clean to maintain efficiency and avoid odours.
- Do not tamper or repair; use qualified technician.
- Disconnect from electricity before cleaning.
Cleaning the accessories (turntable and support)
Clean with mild detergent. Handle support carefully. CAUTION: Oven interior/turntable get hot.
Cleaning the interior
Wipe spills immediately. Use mild liquid detergent, warm water, soft cloth. NEVER use abrasive cleaners, commercial oven cleaners, or steel wool. To loosen deposits: boil cup of water for 2-3 mins. NEVER use knife/utensil to remove deposits. To remove odours: boil cup of water + 2 tbsp lemon juice for 5 mins.
Cleaning the exterior
Open door when cleaning control panel. Clean outside with mild liquid detergent/water, wipe with clear water, dry with soft cloth. Spray-on cleaners acceptable. Never use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, harsh chemicals. Prevent water entering ventilation openings.
Guarantee Conditions
- 24 months from first purchase. Not for commercial use.
- Covers faulty workmanship/material. Excludes misuse, neglect, faulty installation, unauthorized modification, attempted repair, commercial use, failure to observe instructions. Does not cover bulbs, removable glassware, plastic.
- Contact nearest customer service office for repairs. ZANUSSI may stipulate repair location.
- Guarantee includes labour and materials.
- Repairs do not extend guarantee period. Removed parts are property of ZANUSSI.
- Purchaser's statutory rights are not affected.
European Guarantee
If moving to another European country: guarantee moves with you, subject to qualifications:
- Starts from date of first purchase.
- Same period/extent for labour/parts as new country.
- Relates to you, not transferable.
- New home in EC or EFTA.
- Product installed/used according to instructions, domestically only.
- Product installed according to local regulations.
